SIBIU

Sibiu (German: Hermannstadt; Hungarian: Nagyszeben; Latin: Cibinium ) is the capital of Sibiu County and the largest city in the county. It is one of the most important cultural and religious centres in Transylvania. Sibiu holds the title of martyr city. It has a population of about 175,000 inhabitants.

 
 
 
  Sibiu was one of the most important and thriving cities in Transylvania, being the centre of the Saxon colonists settled in the area. During the past few years, the city has known a significant economic and cultural rebirth, and it has become one of the cities with the highest rates of foreign investment in the country. Sibiu was designated European Capital of Culture for the year 2007 together with Luxembourg.
